Diet plays an important role in managing IC. Even though in India doctors do not emphasize on the diet but diet is important. Doctors from all over the world have now realized the role of diet in managing and even curing IC. Diet is unique for each patient and therefore most patients need a guided diet plan. It is important to identify trigger foods and eliminate them. It takes time, patience and perseverance to follow the IC diet, however, with the help of an experienced consultant it is easy. Below is a list of a few common foods that IC patients should avoid:

·         Tomatoes

·         Citrus fruits

·         Caffeine in coffee, tea

·         Chocolates

·         Raw onion

·         Alcohol

·         Processed and canned food

·         Artificial sweeteners

However, this is not an exhaustive list. IC is a strange disease and every individual is intolerant towards various foods. While one may be able to tolerate tomatoes others may not. Therefore one has to find their individual trigger food. The best way to identify trigger food is by following a chart. Here is an example of a chart you can use to track your symptoms following food.
